Böblingen District Emerges as Prime in Future Rankings
In the recently published Prognos Future Atlas 2025, the district of Böblingen in Baden-Württemberg has been named as the most future-proof district in Southwest Germany. This study, conducted by Prognos AG, evaluates the future viability of German cities and districts based on 31 macro- and socio-economic factors, including population development, job density, and purchasing power, resulting in a futures index value.
The Prognos Future Atlas 2025 provides insights into the economic and social development of regions across Germany, published every three years. While the exact ranking of Böblingen within Baden-Württemberg is yet to be confirmed, regions with strong economic indicators, innovation, and infrastructure tend to rank higher in such studies. Baden-Württemberg's reputation for a strong economy and innovation environment could contribute positively to Böblingen's ranking.
Other notable mentions in the Prognos Future Atlas 2025 include the city of Stuttgart, which ranks ninth in the list of the best districts in Southwest Germany and ninth in the "competition and innovation" category. The city of Heidelberg ranks seventh in the labor market category, 15th in the list of the most future-proof districts in Germany, and fourth nationwide in the demographic theme.
The districts of Tuttlingen and Lake Constance, as well as Heilbronn and Ulm, are also among the top 20 most future-proof districts in Germany. The city of Karlsruhe ranks 18th, and the districts of Ludwigsburg and Esslingen rank 16th and 17th, respectively, in the list of the most future-proof districts in Germany.
Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have shown significant improvement compared to the Future Atlas 2022, with above-average numbers of regions that have improved by more than ten places. In Baden-Württemberg, 91 percent of districts and cities now belong to the top four future classes, while in Bavaria, 73 percent of regions now belong to the top four future classes.
The districts of Zollernalbkreis and Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg have shown significant improvement in the Prognos Future Atlas 2025. The city of Heidelberg ranks fourth nationwide in the demographic theme, and Böblingen has the best ranking among Southwest districts in the "competition and innovation" category.
