BnF Revamps Gallica Digital Library Search Engine

The Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) has revamped the search engine for its digital library, Gallica. The update, provided by French company Exalead, brings semantic search capabilities and the ability to index unstructured data.

Gallica, launched in 1997, houses over 120,000 volumes, along with thousands of images and recordings. The BnF has partnered with Atos Origin to digitize its vast archives. By 2014, they aim to digitize a staggering 1,800 terabytes of documents.

The new search engine, now powered by Exalead, offers users a more intuitive and efficient way to navigate Gallica's extensive collection. It understands context and meaning, making searches more relevant and accurate.

The BnF's commitment to digitization and improving user experience is evident in this update. With Exalead's advanced search technology, Gallica's users can now explore its rich collection more effectively.
