BMW's Future M3 & M4: Leaked Schedule Reveals Electric Shift
BMW's future plans for the M4 and M3 models have been hinted at in a leaked schedule, although the automaker remains tight-lipped about official timelines. The next M3 will offer both combustion and electric options, with the electric version set to arrive before the traditional engine variant.
The electric BMW M3 (ZA0) is expected to launch in March 2028, with the combustion engine version following in July 2028. This marks a shift in BMW's strategy, as the current BMW M3 (G80 sedan) and M3 Touring (G81) will be produced until February 2027 and October 2027, respectively.
The leaked schedule also reveals that the current BMW M4 (G82 coupe and G83 cabriolet) will have a model cycle extending to June 2029, lasting nearly nine years. However, the future of the M4 after this generation remains uncertain. Meanwhile, a new electric BMW i4 is planned, with production slated from July 2028 to October 2036.
While BMW has not officially confirmed these timelines, the leaked schedule provides insight into the company's plans for its high-performance models. The extended M4 model cycle suggests BMW is evaluating the future of combustion engine and electric versions, with the M3 set to lead the way in electrification.
