Belgium's Elsenborn Base Buzzed by 15 Drones, Sparking European Airspace Concerns

Belgium's Elsenborn military base was recently buzzed by 15 drones, causing a stir and diverting incoming flights. This incident comes amidst a surge of drone-related disruptions in European airspace, sparking concerns and debates.

The Belgian Defense Ministry is currently investigating the incident. The drones, whose origin and operators remain unknown, flew into Germany after the sighting. The base commander, Thierry Crevecoeur, confirmed the incident and ruled out any military involvement. This event follows a series of drone disruptions, including nearly two dozen Russian attack drones crossing into Poland, triggering a massive emergency response.

In response to these incidents, Bavarian Premier Markus Söder proposed allowing police to immediately shoot down drones. Meanwhile, recent drone incidents in Denmark and Norway have reignited discussions about the feasibility of a 'drone wall' on Europe's eastern flank to guard against potential Russian belligerence. Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken, however, stated there's no concrete evidence linking the Belgian incident to Russia.

The Belgian drone sighting highlights the growing concern over drone-related disruptions in European airspace. As investigations continue, discussions on effective countermeasures and potential threats intensify. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for robust defense strategies against such incidents.
