Award Ceremony for the Futurezone 2014

In a grand ceremony hosted by Austria's leading technology news portal, futurezone.at, the country's best products and innovations were recognised. Among the prestigious awards, Andreas Wendel, a distinguished telematics graduate from TU Graz, was named the Innovator of the Year.

Wendel, currently based in Mountain View, has been making waves in the tech world, particularly in the realm of autonomous vehicles. He is currently developing self-driving cars for Google at the Google X-Laboratory, and more recently, he has taken up the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Kodiak Robotics.

Kodiak Robotics, a company renowned for its innovative work in self-driving truck technology, is spearheaded by Wendel. He is instrumental in driving Kodiak's strategy and technology development in autonomous trucking, a sector that traditionally has been slow to adopt self-driving technology.

Under Wendel's technical leadership, Kodiak Robotics is making significant strides, overcoming challenges in autonomous trucking. The company has secured partnerships and contracts with notable entities such as Atlas Energy Solutions and the U.S. Army, validating the technology's potential application in real-world logistics and transportation.

Wendel's work at Kodiak Robotics positions him as a key figure in advancing autonomous driving systems specifically tailored for long-haul trucking. This contributes to the future of transportation by integrating self-driving technology into commercial freight operations.

Other notable winners at the futurezone Award ceremony included Microsoft, which was awarded Tablet of the Year, Samsung, which took home the Smartphone of the Year award, and Canon, recognised for the most popular digital camera. The awards were given for the best high-tech products and innovations of the year.

The Innovator of the Year award was presented for the first time by Federal Minister Mag. Johanna Mikl-Leitner and Mr. Mag. Lukas Praml. The event was powered by OeSD. The jury, comprising experts and futurezone.at readers, chose their favourites in six product categories.
