Avoid overheating your Nintendo Switch 2: Nintendo issues a warning against using the new console in hot outdoor conditions

In the midst of the sweltering summer heat, Nintendo has issued a warning to users of its popular gaming consoles, the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The warning comes as parts of the UK, Japan, and the United States experience soaring temperatures, with Tokyo and the Izu Islands in Japan predicted to reach dangerously high levels on August 6.

The Izu Islands, along with Tokyo, are currently under a heat warning, and Nintendo's customer service has advised users to be cautious when using their devices outdoors during hot weather. This advisory applies globally, not just in Japan.

The recommended temperature range for using both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2 systems outdoors is between 5°C and 35°C (41°F to 95°F). Using either console outside this range, especially above 35°C (95°F), may cause the device to overheat and potentially malfunction.

Several users have reported overheating problems with the Switch 2 when playing in hot environments, sometimes leading to the system shutting down or going into sleep mode to cool off. Nintendo Japan's customer service has explicitly warned that high temperatures can cause the console to become hot and malfunction.

It's not just high temperatures that pose a risk. Extremely low temperatures (below 5°C) are also not recommended, as they may cause issues, especially in colder climates like northern Japan.

In summary, the safe operating temperature range for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 is 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F). Users are advised to avoid playing outdoors in temperatures exceeding 35°C (95°F) to prevent hardware damage and ensure optimal performance. Additionally, it's crucial to ensure proper ventilation and avoid blocking intake/exhaust ports when using these devices in high-temperature environments.

Stay cool and keep gaming, everyone!

Gaming enthusiasts should be mindful of the recommended temperature range when using the Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and other gaming consoles, as operating them outside the range of 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F) might lead to overheating and potential malfunctions. Similarly, it's essential to exercise caution with other temperature-sensitive gadgets such as smartphones when using them outdoors during extreme weather conditions.
