AVM's New Fritz!OS Update Brings Automatic Ethernet Tethering

AVM has introduced a new feature in its Fritz!OS update, enabling automatic Ethernet tethering when the internet connection fails. This update, available in Fritz!OS 8.20, is now rolling out to various FritzBox router models like the 7590 and 7510. Ethernet tethering provides a reliable solution for keeping home networks online, even in areas with poor mobile reception.

When the router has no mobile reception or USB tethering isn't supported, Ethernet tethering comes to the rescue. It uses a USB-C Ethernet adapter to connect to the internet. While USB or Bluetooth tethering can quickly connect individual devices, they often fall short for an entire home network. A WLAN hotspot can connect multiple devices, but managing multiple devices in a home network can be cumbersome.

USB tethering is a simple solution for a single device, but it's limited to one device at a time. Internet disruptions can significantly impact daily life, especially when the home network goes offline. AVM's update addresses this issue by automatically detecting internet connection failures and activating Ethernet tethering. This feature is now available in Fritz!OS 8.20. For a more comprehensive solution, USB tethering via a Fritz!Box is recommended, providing internet access to the entire home network. However, setting up Ethernet tethering requires additional hardware and monitoring data usage to avoid unexpected costs. Ethernet tethering is particularly useful when the router is located in an area with poor mobile reception, offering a flexible and effective way to bring the home network back online during outages.

AVM's update to Fritz!OS 8.20 introduces automatic Ethernet tethering, ensuring home networks stay connected even when the internet goes down. This feature, along with USB tethering via a Fritz!Box, provides reliable solutions for keeping home networks online, making internet disruptions less disruptive to daily life.
