Archmongers Transforms London Homes into Contemporary, Energy-Efficient Spaces
Archmongers, a London-based residential retrofit specialist, has completed two striking renovations this year. The first, Elemental House in Hackney, transformed a 1970s split-level home into a contemporary space. The second, Ray House in Dalston, retrofitted a Victorian house in a conservation area, increasing its size and updating its interior.
At Ray House, the rear extension added 17 sq m, creating a snug and a music room. The new stairwell, featuring black rubber treads and crafted from Douglas fir and ply, became a standout feature. The interiors showcased the clients' classic design collection, including Ettore Sottsass' 'Tahiti' and 'Callimaco' lighting. The kitchen was relocated to the upper ground floor, facing the front garden. The renovation also converted the house into an all-electric, hi-tech contemporary home with improved insulation and a heat pump.
The house's rear façade now boasts a sunny yellow frieze designed by its owner, Leona Clark. This striking addition complements the overall contemporary aesthetic of the retrofitted Ray House.
Archmongers' renovations of Elemental House and Ray House demonstrate their expertise in transforming older homes into contemporary, energy-efficient spaces. Both projects showcase the firm's ability to blend classic design with modern functionality, creating unique and inviting living spaces.
