Apple Introduces the iPhone 16, Featured by an Additional Button, Larger Display, and Apple-Driven Intelligence
Apple's newly announced iPhone 16 lineup, unveiled at the Glowtime event, promises bigger screens and advanced camera controls for its fans. While the Pro models boast large displays and a physical camera control button, the standard iPhone 16 retains its 6.1-inch screen with a notable upgrade in the form of a pill-shaped camera array.
The much-anticipated AI features, dubbed Apple Intelligence, are set to embellish the user experience. Some of these intelligence features will utilize the camera control button, which is expected to become a prominent shooting companion. While ChatGPT integration is expected later this year, pre-orders for the iPhone 16 will only kick off the AI revolution in September.
The iPhone 16 lineup bears a striking resemblance to last year's iPhone 15, save for some minor tweaks, such as the triangular camera array on the standard models and larger displays for the Pro models. While the regular iPhone 16 sports a 6.1-inch screen, the Pro max boasts a colossal 6.9-inch one. The Google Pixel 9 Pro may have led the charge for bigger screens, but Apple is confident that its clientele apprehends even larger viewing real estate.
A myriad of fresh colors is in store for the iPhone 16 fans, including the infamous rumored "gold titanium" shade first hinted in leaks last month. Other options include green, pink, blue, and white coupled with the base iPhone 16. Devoid of sterling hardware distinctions between the standard and pro models, the more expensive phones will nevertheless boast superior camera capabilities like 4K slow-motion at 120 FPS for the Pro Max.
The iPhone 16 is set to retail at $800, with the 16 Plus following suit at $900. The Pro models, however, hold a stiffer asking price, starting at $1,000 for the Pro and $1,200 for the Pro Max. All models are now open for pre-order and are scheduled for September 20 launch.
Cameratic Control Button on iPhone 16
Apple has ushered in the digital photography era with a bang, granting iPhone 16 users a physical camera control button. This button will allow you to swipe through basic camera settings, brighten camera functions with a light press, and take photographs with a full press. In a later update, Apple promises to add a two-stage shutter with focus and exposure lock functionality, which the early adopters might miss out on.
The Pro models are receiving notable camera upgrades as well. Innovations include an improved ultrawide lens from 12 MP to a robust 48 MP sensor on the Pro, allowing for 5x optical zoom. The Pro Max can record 4K video at 120 FPS, allowing for a multitude of slow-motion effects. A new "Audio Mix" feature on the Pro adds custom sound adjustments post-recording as well.

iOS 18 Software on iPhone 16
Apple is bolstering the iPhone 16 lineup with new chips and RAM. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus have improved upon their predecessor with the A17 Bionic, while the Pro and Pro Max cards carry the even more powerful A18 Bionic chip. Each device boasts increased RAM, now at 8 GB, in a bid to bolster the AI features. All models can seamlessly switch to iOS 18 right out of the box.
The promised AI generative features, such as ChatGPT integration, are still a work in progress. Apple asserts it will roll out these features "later this year." The AI Camera Control is also scheduled for release in the same timeframe, empowering iPhone users to search for individuals, objects, or places within their photos.
The iOS 18 beta offers several customization options for the home screen and RCS support, along with various quality-of-life improvements. iPhone enthusiasts can expect to see a multitude of new software features this year, which will no doubt heighten the overall experience.
