Sizzlin' DayZ: Badlands Map Brings a Scorching Challenge
Anticipated Middle Eastern and Soviet-influenced landscapes in DayZ's upcoming largest map, set for release next year.
Hey there, survival enthusiasts! Gear up for some intense heat causa the new DayZ map, Badlands, is coming to kick your butt in 2026! Unlike the frigid land of Frostline, this new map takes you to the scorching sands of Nasdara Province, where the battle for survival isn't just about cunning and gunning, but battling against the merciless heat and drought.
This new map will be DayZ's largest official one, sprawling across 267x267 km, larger than the iconic Chernarus map (225x225 km). So, get ready to explore a vast landscape that's more than just sand and cracked soil—abandoned Middle Eastern-style cities, Soviet-era military bases, modern oil infrastructure, and more await you! And it's all located in western Takistan, which is loosely based on Afghanistan, for those who love a bit of geography with their shoot-'em-up.
But the blistering sands ain't the only challenge you'll face. H2O is more precious than gold, considering neither the land nor the broken wells can quench your thirst. You'll also have to deal with region-specific wildlife and infected variants that'll make your stay in the Badlands a real pain. Expect new gear, weapons, and clothing that'll help you endure this harsh environment, or make you look really cool while you're dying of thirst.
Through its tenure, DayZ has been an interesting ride. It exploded onto the scene in 2013 but saw a slow decrease in players during its five-year stint in Early Access. It officially launched in 2018 but still felt unfinished. However, things started looking up in 2019, with the game's popularity reaching heights last seen during its Early Access days, peaking in late 2024 with almost 80,000 players concurrently logged in.
Frostline wasn't exactly a hit, getting "Mixed" reviews on Steam, with our own Jake Tucker not exactly fawning over it. But despite this, the survival game still manages to pull in between 50-60,000 players daily. So, we'll have to see if the community finds Badlands more to their liking.
As Bohemia Interactive asks, will you find solace in exploring or will you continue the cycle of violence amidst these ruins of the past? Personally, I'd put my money on the cycle of violence.
Badlands will set you back less than $25 when it drops, which I assume means it'll be $24.99. And if you're looking to dive into DayZ right now, it's currently on sale for 50% off on Steam, so grab it for just $25.
So, strap on your helmets, load up on water, and get ready to go where none have gone before in the scorching Badlands!
