Announcing fresh color options influenced by traditional American attire: PRS and John Mayer present new tints for the much sought-after SE Silver Sky, with an extra special addition of Maple designs

The Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Guitars have unveiled four new colorways for their popular SE Silver Sky model, aligning with timeless, fashionable colors that reflect traditional American style. John Mayer, a collaborator with PRS, is excited to share these latest additions with the world.

The new colorways for the PRS SE Silver Sky include Derby Red, Trad Blue, Laurel Green, and Dandy Lion, a bright yellow reminiscent of Graffiti Yellow, a colour first introduced to Fender by Jeff Beck. These colours, inspired by traditional American fashion, echo time-tested hues that have remained popular through decades.

In addition, the maple fretboard versions of the SE Silver Sky now offer Moon White, Stone Blue, Summit Purple, and Nylon Blue, colours previously exclusive to the rosewood models. This expansion allows guitar enthusiasts a wider range of choices to suit their personal style.

The PRS SE Silver Sky, an affordable version of a John Mayer guitar, has been a significant success since its 2022 launch. It retains its recipe, featuring a poplar body, bolt-on maple neck, rosewood fingerboard with bird inlays, three 635JM "S" single coil pickups, a 25.5" scale length, 8.5" fretboard radius, two-point steel tremolo, and vintage-style tuners.

The SE NF 53, another standout release from PRS's birthday shenanigans, has also received positive reviews, potentially one of the best sub-$1K guitars of 2025. It seems the PRS SE Silver Sky has been dethroned from its previous position atop Reverb's best-selling guitar list, but it remains a popular choice among musicians.

PRS's strategy is not to dethrone Fender or Gibson from the top of the electric guitar hierarchy. Instead, they aim to offer a unique and high-quality product that appeals to a wide range of guitarists. In fact, PRS has even discussed the possibility of making a headless guitar.

These new colorways for the PRS SE Silver Sky are now available for purchase at $849 each, as part of PRS's ongoing 40th anniversary celebrations. Each month, new builds are launched, adding to the excitement for guitar enthusiasts.
