Alpha Trains Expands Fleet with 15 New Siemens Vectron Dual-Mode Locomotives
Alpha Trains has ordered 15 more Vectron Dual-Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility, expanding its fleet. The order, part of a framework agreement signed in 2024, will see the new locomotives produced at Siemens' Munich-Allach plant. They will operate in Germany and Austria, with maintenance covered by an existing service contract.
The Vectron Dual-Mode locomotives, set to join Alpha Trains' existing fleet of Vectron AC, MS, and Dual-Mode models, offer operational flexibility. They can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, with a maximum power output of 2.4 megawatts in electric mode and 2 megawatts in diesel mode. This enables transport services on both electrified and non-electrified track sections, reducing emissions.
Vincent Pouyet, CEO of the Locomotives business area at Alpha Trains, sees this expansion as a step towards the future. It provides intelligent and sustainable solutions for the rail transport sector.
Alpha Trains' order of 15 Vectron Dual-Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility will enhance its fleet's versatility and sustainability. The new locomotives, to be used in Germany and Austria, will be maintained under an existing service contract, ensuring reliable operation.
