Airbus, Tata Join Forces for India's First Private Helicopter Assembly Line

Airbus Helicopters and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) have joined forces to establish India's first private sector helicopter final assembly line in Vemagal, Karnataka. The facility will produce the H125, a versatile helicopter that will cater to both civil and military needs, with deliveries slated for early 2027.

The new assembly line, a collaboration between Airbus and TASL, will manufacture the H125, a light, single-engine helicopter renowned for its performance and reliability. This is the second Airbus aircraft assembly plant TASL is building in India, following the C295 military aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.

Sukaran Singh, CEO and MD of TASL, expressed pride in Tata's foray into helicopter manufacturing. He noted that the 'Made in India' H125 will help develop new civil and para-public market segments and meet the requirements of the Indian Armed Forces. Jürgen Westermeier, President and MD of Airbus India and South Asia, echoed this sentiment, stating that India is an ideal helicopter country.

The H125 will be offered in a military version, the H125M, with high levels of indigenised components and technologies. This will not only cater to the Indian stock market today but also open up export opportunities in the South Asian region. Airbus, which sources components and services worth about $1.4+ billion every year from India, is committed to further strengthening its ties with the country through this collaboration.

The new final assembly line in Vemagal, Karnataka, marks a significant milestone in India's aerospace industry. The 'Made in India' H125 is expected to be delivered in early 2027, promising to meet the diverse needs of the Indian stock market today and beyond.
