Vibrant new era for national defense as Base Operations bags Direct-to-Phase II contract from Air Force

Dive into the exciting news as the innovative startup, Base Operations, seizes the Direct-to-Phase II contract from AFWERX to deliver cutting-edge AI-driven security intelligence. The mission? To safeguard the global operations of the Department of the Air Force (DAF).

In a groundbreaking move towards saving time and streamlining the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) process, the Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX have joined forces. Their goal? To accelerate the small business experience by reducing bureaucratic red tape and offering faster proposal to award timelines, making the process more accessible to small businesses.

The DAF began this game-changing journey back in 2018 with their Open Topic SBIR/STTR program, which expanded the range of innovations it funded. On May 27th, 2025, the choice fell on Base Operations, which will now step up to the challenge and develop innovative capabilities to bolster national defense.

Cory Siskind, the Founder and CEO of Base Operations, couldn't be prouder. He shared: "In an era of escalating threats and rapid transformation in federal procurement, sourcing cutting-edge solutions from U.S. startups is essential to maintaining operational readiness and protecting our warfighters. We're thrilled to be selected by the Air Mobility Command of the Department of Air Force to deliver advanced, AI-powered threat intelligence. Our platform enhances force protection by predicting and mitigating risks around critical installations. Ultimately, we're helping to protect our personnel, deter adversarial foreign espionage, and ensure mission success in complex and dynamic environments."

It's important to note that the views expressed are Cory's own and don't necessarily reflect the official stance of the Department of the Air Force, the Department of Defense, or the US government.
