Over the course of the survey, participants weighed in more than a million times and shared roughly 4,000 unique ideas. These ideas included calls for new museums, the expansion of pedestrian infrastructure, green spaces, and more.

Sensemaker was used to analyze the large set of data collected and categorize the ideas into overarching topics. The analysis found 2,370 ideas that at least 80% of the respondents could agree on. Some of the most agreed-upon ideas included increasing the amount of healthcare specialists in the city and repurposing empty retail spaces.

The use of AI in this town hall meeting had several notable impacts. AI tools can enhance real-time feedback and sentiment analysis, improve inclusivity and participation, streamline event organization and post-event analysis, and facilitate transparency and efficiency.

However, concerns such as surveillance fears and privacy may temper civic enthusiasm and participation if AI deployment is perceived as intrusive or lacking transparency. In some municipalities, AI's proposed use for monitoring public spaces or infrastructure via devices can raise privacy concerns among residents, impacting public trust and civic discourse negatively.

Despite these concerns, the successful implementation of AI in Bowling Green's town hall meeting demonstrates its potential to revolutionize civic engagement. If successfully implemented, AI could provide a pathway for moving past political polarization and enacting tangible change.
