AI-Powered Ship Construction Company Blue Water Autonomy Secures $50 Million in Funding
Blue Water Autonomy, a company specialising in autonomous naval vessels, has revealed its ambitious plans to deliver a long-range, full-sized autonomous ship for the U.S. Navy in 2026.
The company, which has quadrupled its team since the seed round in April, is developing fully autonomous naval vessels that incorporate hardware, software, and AI. Successful engineering tests on the water have already been completed.
The autonomous ship, measuring approximately 60 yards in length, is designed to operate on the ocean for months at a time and is capable of delivering varied payloads. The aim is to automate monotonous or dangerous at-sea jobs, not only for the U.S. Navy but also in the commercial maritime sector.
Blue Water Autonomy's first autonomous ship is intended for the U.S. Navy, with the aim to handle traditional naval assets. However, the company foresees its solution eventually competing in commercial maritime markets as well.
The company has secured a significant $50 million Series A round, led by Google Ventures, and boasts a total of $64 million in funding. The vessels are intended to be highly producible and affordable, making them accessible for various applications.
Despite the lack of information about the founder or leader of Blue Water Autonomy, the company's focus remains clear: to revolutionise the naval and commercial maritime sectors with its autonomous technology. The planned delivery date for the first autonomous ship is in 2026, marking a significant step forward in the world of autonomous navigation.
