AI and 5G advancements take center stage at GSMA M360 Eurasia conference
G2G with Tech: GSMA M360 Eurasia in Tashkent Highlights Digital Growth Opportunities
GSMA M360 Eurasia kicks off today in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, igniting discussions on the digital transformation potential across Eurasia. The second edition of this conference, hosted by the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan and sponsored by Beeline Uzbekistan, showcases the expanding digital landscape of the region.
The recent GSMA Mobile Economy Eurasia report reveals the economic clout of mobile technology, forecasting a contribution of $270 billion to Eurasia's economy by 2030.
Partnerships are at the heart of M360 Eurasia, with key collaborations driving innovation, such as:
- Kaz-LLM: Award-winning research institutions in Kazakhstan have collaborated to create Kaz-LLM, a multilingual AI capable of interacting in Kazakh, Turkish, English, and Russian. VEON supports QazCode, aiding the language model developed with assistance from Barcelona Supercomputing Centre and GSMA Foundry. This initiative aims to fill the AI language gap for low-resource languages.
- IBM: The GSMA Foundry joins forces with tech giant IBM, offering GSMA members access to Watsonx.ai.
- European Space Agency (ESA): The GSMA Foundry also partners with ESA on Non-Terrestrial Networks.
Vivek Badrinath, GSMA's director general, stresses the importance of connectivity in fostering economic growth in the region and the need for collaboration, innovation, and ambition to progress.
In essence, Eurasia's digital transformation is accelerating, with the mobile ecosystem playing a major role in shaping its future. Mobile technologies are projected to contribute 8.3% of Eurasia's GDP by 2030, while 5G connections are estimated to account for 41% of total mobile connections by the same year.
The conference underscores the importance of bridging the digital divide and ensuring digital inclusion. Efforts are underway to expand mobile internet access and integrate AI into everyday life. The regional digital ecosystem emphasizes cohesive efforts, innovation, and an ambitious approach to accelerating regional digital progress and bettering the quality of life across Eurasia.
The collaboration between key players, such as Kaz-LLM and VEON, presents the integration of artificial-intelligence into everyday life in Eurasia, as Kaz-LLM is a multilingual AI capable of interacting in various languages.
The GSMA's partnership with tech giant IBM through the GSMA Foundry signifies the significance of artificial-intelligence in driving innovation and shaping the future digital landscape of Eurasia.
