Advanced miniaturized Compute Modules driven by NXP's i.MX 95 chipset, powering edge intelligence applications in various sectors.
Advantech and NXP Unveil Compact Computer-on-Modules for Edge AI Solutions
In a recent development, NXP Semiconductors has introduced the i.MX 95 series, a new addition to its i.MX 9 family of application processors. Meanwhile, Advantech, a global leader in IoT intelligent systems and embedded platforms, has unveiled two new Computer-on-Modules based on the NXP i.MX 95 platform: the AOM-5521 and AOM-2521.
The AOM-5521 and AOM-2521 are compact, highly integrated modules designed for edge AI solutions. They feature up to six Arm Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz and a dedicated 2 TOPS NPU (Neural Processing Unit) optimized for Linux-based edge AI and machine vision applications.
Advantech's new modules offer advanced connectivity, including one 10 GbE and two 1 GbE ports with Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) support. They also meet functional safety standards ASIL-B/SIL-2 by integrating Arm Cortex-M7 and Cortex-M33 CPUs for real-time and critical system safety tasks.
Key features of the AOM-5521 and AOM-2521 include up to 8 GB LPDDR4/5 RAM, 16 GB eMMC, and 8 MB QSPI NOR flash for ample memory and storage. They also boast a NXP Image Signal Processor supporting up to eight image sensors, RGB-IR and HDR capabilities, and a 4K Video Processing Unit for high-quality video processing.
The AOM-2521 follows the OSM Size-L (45 x 45 mm) form factor and operates within a temperature range of 0 to 60 °C (standard) and -40 to 85 °C (rugged).
Applications for these modules focus on next-generation industrial automation, intelligent machine vision, real-time control systems, medical devices, and IoT edge computing. They are ideal for scenarios where low power consumption, high AI performance, multi-sensor image processing, and real-time networking are critical.
The i.MX 95 series is designed to support the growing demands of next-generation applications in automotive, industrial automation, networking, connectivity, and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI). Advantech's corporate vision is "Enabling an Intelligent Planet," and they are working with business partners to co-create ecosystems that accelerate the goal of industrial intelligence.
