Let's Talk About the FutureCraft.Footprint Shoe

Adidas and Allbirds unveil eco-friendly running footwear with minimal carbon emissions.

Alright, folks! Here's the lowdown on the latest collaboration between Allbirds and Adidas. Eight long months after they first showcased the Futurecraft Footprint concept, they've finally dropped the shoe. starting from Dec 13, you can cop these babies on both brands' apps, select retail stores, and Adidas' online store.

The price? A cool $120 per pair, and with limited quantities available, you'll want to snag yours quick. Four new colorways are set to hit the scene this spring, with a wider release planned.

But these shoes aren't just another pretty face—these babies have some serious eco-cred. According to the press release, they produce a mere 2.94 kilograms of CO₂ per pair, a personal best for both brands. The key to its low carbon footprint is the combination of Adidas' Lightstrike midsole with Allbirds' bio-based sugarcane material.

Both brands have been pushing the sustainability envelope in their exclusive ways. Allbirds, for instance, built its reputation on crafting shoes with wool, sugarcane, and other natural materials. They even made it onto the Climate Neutral Certified list back in April and aim to slash per-product emissions by an impressive 95% by 2030.

Adidas, on the other hand, has been working on shoes made out of ocean plastic in partnership with Parley for the Oceans for years. Their collaboration has resulted in a whopping 30 million pairs of eco-friendly kicks since the first one dropped in 2015.

Brian Grevy, executive board member of global brands at Adidas, is excited about the impact this collaboration could have: "Our ambition is to take Futurecraft Footprint from moonshot concept to something that sparks systemic change."

This launch isn't the only thing heating up for Allbirds—it's been a busy year! They filed for an IPO in August, made their Nasdaq debut in November, entered the activewear apparel category back in August, and launched their own performance running shoe in April 2020. They've even got plans for "hundreds" of potential stores and reported a 33% net sales growth in their first earnings as a public company.

So there you have it. Another step forward in the world of sustainable fashion—you'll want to join the movement by getting yourself a pair of these eco-friendly kicks!
