ADAC Warns: Many Children's Reflective Vests Fail Safety Tests
ADAC South Baden has warned consumers about reflective vests for kids, many of which fail to meet safety standards. The organisation recommends buying vests with the EN 17353 label and has called for a sales ban on 13 non-compliant products.
ADAC's tests revealed that more than half of the kids' reflective vests do not reflect well or at all. Only seven out of 20 online vests passed the test, while three performed poorly and ten did not reflect. In stores, all five vests tested performed well, with the cheapest passing vest costing less than three euros.
ADAC has forwarded the test results to manufacturers and the market surveillance authority. They have also named the 13 manufacturers whose vests failed to meet the EN 17353 standard and could face a ban. Despite having the label, many products still do not meet the required standards. ADAC recommends buying vests from hardware stores and checking for the EN 17353 standard. A simple test using a smartphone flashlight can help determine if a vest reflects well.
ADAC's findings highlight the importance of checking for the EN 17353 standard when buying reflective vests for kids. Consumers should be cautious when purchasing online and consider buying from stores. The organisation's call for a sales ban on non-compliant vests aims to improve safety for kids on the roads.
