Action RPG "Path of Exile" unveils its 31st expansion, ensuring adherence to genre standards by allowing players to recruit mercenaries for combat support.
Get Ready for a New Era in Path of Exile's Action-Packed Universe!
Hey there, pathfinders! Get ready to dive back into the dark, dense world of Path of Exile as the games' 31st free expansion, Secrets of the Atlas, unleashes a cavalcade of fresh content on June 13. This time around, the focus is on mercenaries, adding a wholly new layer to the gameplay that every great action RPG eventually incorporates.
In the new league, players will be tracking down one-of-a-kind mercenaries from the land of Trarthus. Each mercenary comes with their unique set of gear, giving you the chance to inspect their style before deciding your next move. You can hire them on the spot, challenge them for their exclusive loot, or chose to exile them in search of more favorable allies.
These mercenaries are essentially other players with their own gear and builds, ready to dive into combat with you. They'll be carrying around unique items and stats you can't find anywhere else, so your main goal will be tracking them down and adding as many to your collection as you can during the league.
One of the coolest features of the new league is the secondary character you'll effectively be building as you refine your main character's build. Each mercenary can be equipped with all the same items players can wear, offering endless possibilities for creative buildcrafting. You can turn them into tanks, supports, or something in between, depending on the situation.
But that's not all, folks! In addition to the Mercenaries of Trarthus Challenge League, Secrets of the Atlas also introduces a new endgame storyline, monsters that drop temporary powers to use, brand-new bosses, crafting items, and a bunch of quality-of-life features.
During the latest announcement stream, developers Grinding Gear Games revealed that they've delayed the expansion to focus on balancing updates for both PoE and its soon-to-be released soulslike sequel. They expect to update PoE with around the same amount of content as this expansion every four months.
